Redemptorists of the Province of St. Clemens welcome eight new associates

On Friday, March 14th the Redemptorist Province St. Clemens welcomed eight women and men as associates. They came from Belgium (Flanders), the Netherlands and German. The Redemptorist Province and the new associates signed an individual contract  with mutual rights and obligations. Most important is the commitment to share life and the responsibility for the mission of the Redemptorists, while each individual maintains his/hers own civil position and responsibilities.

This association was preceded by a two-year process. During this process, the candidates deepened the spirituality of the Redemptorists and reflected on the implications of the step they wanted to take. Next autumn the Redemptorists hope to start a new group for a two-year process leading to association.

The new associates were presented during the so called 'Clements Day' on Saturday, March 15th at Klooster Wittem, the see of the St. Clemens Province. This is an annual gathering for all members of the Redemptorist family in our province. This year some hundred people attended.

The day was opened by Sr. Dr. Anneliese Herzig M.Ss.R. (former general superior of the 'Missionsschwestern') who spoke on the occasion of her book 'In der Spur Jesu' (In Jesus' steps) on a new interpretation of the evangelical counsels. In the Eucharist which ended the day, the provincial Fr. Johannes Romelt C.Ss.R presented the new associates. In his homily he put the emphasis on sharing the wealth of the Gospel as a message of peace.

Sr. Anneliese also met with the new associates to discuss some of the content of her book. The eight new associates joined the four already existing associates from the Netherlands. During the Eucharist for each of them a candle was burning.
