Therefore, our communities and institutions are intended to be safe havens where respectful and mindful interactions are nurtured. We bear the responsibility for safeguarding those entrusted to us. Martin van Ditzhuyzen

I am an independent contact person for the Redemptorists of the Province of St. Clemens.

My independence ensures that all information is treated confidentially. You decide which information to share.

In my role, I am the primary contact person for current suspicions related to sexual abuse and violence within the responsibility of the Redemptorists of the Province of St. Clemens. I also support individuals who may have experienced such incidents in the past and are now ready to speak about it.

Additionally, I assist individuals who choose to apply for “Recognition of Suffering” through the Independent Commission for Recognition Payments process. This process governs the payment of recognition payments to those affected. More information on this process within the German Conference of Superiors of Religious Orders can be found here.

As a supervisor and organizational consultant with two therapeutic qualifications, I have extensive experience in supporting people through challenging professional and personal situations. The interplay between individual issues and systemic processes within organizations is a central focus of my work.

Since autumn 2020, I have immersed myself in various training programs concerning abuse within the Catholic Church. Since March 2021, I have also served as an independent contact person for the Diocese of Aachen, within a team of five.

I am deeply moved by the experiences of those affected. Individuals have suffered significant pain due to acts of sexual violence by certain individuals in church positions or employees of the Catholic Church. Moreover, the responses of those responsible, who should have supported these victims, have often been inappropriate in the past, exacerbating the suffering significantly. Such behavior from an organization dedicated to pastoral care has led to profound disappointments, injuries, and loss of trust among many affected individuals, making it very challenging for them to cope with life.

My primary goal is to ensure that these individuals are treated with appropriate care, listened to, and thereby alleviate some of the experienced suffering.

Marie-Therese Wirtz-Doerr

Since August 2023, I have been an independent contact person for the Redemptorists of the Province of St. Clemens.

As an independent contact person, I am not employed by or in any contractual relationship with the Province of St. Clemens. I operate without being subject to their directives, ensuring that all information is treated confidentially. You have the autonomy to decide whether and what information is shared with whom.

If you have experienced or previously experienced sexual abuse and violence within the Redemptorists of the Province of St. Clemens, I am available for discussions.

Furthermore, I can assist you if you wish to apply for “Recognition of Suffering” through the Independent Commission for Recognition Payments process. This process governs the payment of recognition payments to those affected. More information on this process within the German Conference of Superiors of Religious Orders can be found here.

I have many years of experience working in charitable and social organizations as well as an organizational consultant. Therefore, I have diverse experience in supporting people in challenging life situations.

Since December 2022, I have also served as an independent contact person for the Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne.

My motivation for working as an independent contact person is twofold: firstly, to create a safe space for victims to share their experiences and to support them, and secondly, to contribute to changing church structures so that abuse and violence have no place.
